Do you hate having your eyes dilated?
Now there is an alternative!
In our continued effort to provide patients with the most advanced technology available, Roberts Eyecare Associates is pleased to now include the Optomap Retinal Exam as an integral part of your eye examination. This technology allows our doctors to see what they would normally see on a dilated exam and in most cases, eliminates the need for dilation drops!
Many vision problems begin at an early age, so it is important for children to receive proper eye care. Early detection and treatment are essential in preventing conditions that could potentially cause problems or permanent vision loss. In addition to looking for changes in the front of your child's eye, which could affect overall vision, we also need to look at the inside of the eye, importantly the retina, to check that is is healthy and not damaged or showing signs of disease. Many conditions, such as retinal detachments and retinal holes can be treated successfully if caught early.
The Optomap Retinal Exam is fast, easy and comfortable for children of all ages, and offers many advantages including:
- Provides an ultra-wide field view of the retina
- Is non-invasive
- Allows you to view your child's Optomap retinal image with the doctor during the exam
- Provides an annual, permanent record which gives your doctor comparisons for tracking and diagnosing potential issues.
The Optomap Retinal Exam was developed by Douglas Anderson who son lost sight in one eye at the age of five due to an undetected retinal detachment. Mr. Anderson set out to develop a system that not only could capture an unprecedented view of the retina (200 degrees), but that was also patient-friendly, particularly for children, who tend to be more difficult to examine.
Dr. Roberts prescribes the Optomap Retinal Exam for all patients, including children. We will be performing the Optomap Retinal Exam as an enhancement to the general eye exam for a fee of $25. Insurance typically does not cover any advanced screening technology beyond the general exam. The OPTOMAP is now available in both of our locations.
