Dr. George T. Roberts, B.A, B.S., O.D., Dpl. NBEO

Dr. Roberts, a second generation optometrist, graduated from Binghamton Central High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts at Ithaca College and Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. While studying at Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Roberts received several awards for academic and clinical excellence. He is listed as an Honor Student and Noteworthy Practitioner by Beta Sigma Kappa, International Optometric Honor Society. He is a Diplomat of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, a Fellow of the Essilor Academy, a Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the American Optometric Association Contact Lens Section, Sports Vision Section and the New York State Optometric Association.

Dr. Roberts is listed in Who's Who in Optometry and America's Top Optometrists. He has served as the official optometrist for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Binghamton Devils, Binghamton Junior Devils, Binghamton University Bearcats, BCC Hornets, Dick's Sporting Goods Open, and The Tri-Cities Opera.

Dr. Roberts and his wife Kathi, the Practice Director at Roberts Eyecare Associates, reside in Vestal and on Hilton Head Island, SC.

Dr. Angela Marx, B.S., O.D.

Director of Pediatric Services

Dr. Marx graduated Magna cum Laude from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor of Science in Biophysics. Her Doctor of Optometry was granted by the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University with Honors. While in optometry school she performed internships at the Baltimore Vision Fitness Center, Wilkes-Barre VA Hospital, Northeastern Eye Institute and the William Feinbloom Center in Philadelphia. Her professional memberships include the American Optometric Association, New York State Optometric Association, where she is currently serving as a Regional Trustee for the Hudson-Mohawk Region on the Board and the South Central Optometric Society, of which she is the immediate past president. 

Dr. Marx loves working with children, has volunteered with the Lions Club Special Olympics Program and volunteers at the Ithaca Health Alliance providing eye exams and glasses to the under- and un-insured of Tompkins County. She is an avid sports fan, played softball through college and coached and umpired girls fast pitch softball. 

When she is not in the office, Dr. Marx loves spending time with her husband and two children and can be found serving her community, whether at Mercy House of the Southern Tier or her daughter's school, where she currently serves as co-PTO President.

Dr. Marx is in charge of Pediatric Services at Roberts Eyecare Associates.

Dr. Edgar Ekure, O.D., Ph.D, M.S.,F.A.A.O.

Dr. Edgar Ekure graduated from the University of Benin in Nigeria, where he obtained his Bachelors and Doctor of Optometry degrees with honors. He further obtained a Masters degree in Clinical Vision Research from Nova Southeastern University where he excelled, becoming the first graduate clinical vision research student to obtain the president's research grant award for his seminal study on: The Global Summation of Radial Frequency Patterns and the Effect of Transient Glare on Shape Discrimination. Dr, Ekure is a published researcher and has presented lectures at both national and international scientific conferences. His Clinical interest is in primary care optometry with emphasis on contact lens practice, glaucoma and neuro-optometry. Dr. Edgar Ekure has been practicing since 1992. Dr. Ekure is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Dr. Ryan Whinery, B.S., O.D.

Dr. Whinery has been at Roberts Eyecare Associates since the summer of 2018. He graduated magna cum laude and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Whinery graduated magna cum laude from Youngstown State University in Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. His memberships include the New York State Optometric Association for which he is the president of the local chapter and the American Optometric Association. While in optometry school, Dr. Whinery completed his externships at the Albuquerque Veterans Affairs Hospital in New Mexico and Oak Hill Eye Care in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Whinery lives with his fiancée Nicole and their 5 cats in Vestal (he knows that this is too many cats). He enjoys exercising and hiking with Nicole. He grew up in Ohio and is a huge Cleveland Browns fan and he knows that this is their year. He played rugby for the Youngstown Steel Valley Men’s Club.

Dr. Chad Belanger, B.S., O.D.

Dr. Belanger joined our Sidney office in September of 2018. He has practiced in Zachary, LA since he graduated from optometry school in 2003. He attended Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. His next stop was Birmingham, AL where he received his Doctorate of Optometry from UAB. Upon graduation, he received many awards including the Most Outstanding Student in the Department of Optometry.

Dr. Belanger resides in Oneonta with his family. His wife, Shannon, is from Fort Edward, NY and is also an optometrist. They have three children. Abby is 9 and loves softball and horses. Brynn and Beau are four and they love their dog Lulu. Dr. Belanger and his family are very happy to be in the community and they are looking forward to providing eye care services for years to come.

Dr. Michael Christensen, B.S., O.D.

Dr. Michael Christensen grew up in Provo, Utah where he earned his undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Brigham Young University. He then moved to Houston, Texas where he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Houston College of Optometry. While in optometry school Dr. Christensen completed a specialty contact lens internship in addition to interning at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center where he routinely cared for patients with cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eyes, and diabetes. Dr. Christensen received several scholarships and awards as a student, including an award for excellence in medically necessary contact lens fitting.

Dr. Christensen and his wife Keala are excited to make their home in Broome County along with their children Albert (3), and baby twins Sonny and Ada.

Dr. Sumit Manhas, B.S., O.D.

Dr. Manhas comes from British Columbia, Canada where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological sciences from Simon Fraser University earning the Dean’s and president’s honor roll. He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University in Oregon. During his final year, he completed clinical rotations at Omni Eye Services of New Jersey and Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center where he provided care for eye emergencies, ocular diseases, and pre and post-operative patients.

Dr. Manhas enjoys everything optometry has to offer with his area of interest being in glaucoma management, dry eyes, and primary care. He is passionate about helping patients achieve comfortable vision with an emphasis on educating patients about ocular health and lifestyle.

In his spare time, Dr. Manhas enjoys running, cooking, and spending time with his wife outdoors.
